Walks

Salcombe is on the South West Coastal Path and there is some excellent walking in the local area.  We recommend you carry a map  - Ordnance Survey Explorer Map OL20 covers the area.  Here are a few of our favourites:

Snape's Point - Walk by road along the northern shore of Batson Creek, before heading up onto National Trust farmland towards Snape's Point itself, with its glorious views over the Salcombe Estuary.  A local walk, ideal for a morning stroll, being a loop of about 2-3 miles.

Bolt Head - Walk (or drive) through Salcombe, past North and South Sands and up onto the South West Coastal Path.  This takes you to Bolt Head, and then on towards Hope Cove.  The length of walk is up to you!

Salcombe to East Prawle - Take the East Portlemouth Ferry from the Ferry Inn in Salcombe.  Join the South West Coastal Path at the other side and walk towards East Prawle (about 6-7 miles one way).   An alterenative is to drive to East Prawle, lunch at the Pig's Nose, and then walk back to Salcombe (assuming you have a willing taxi driver!).

Mill Bay to Gara Rock - Take the East Portlemouth Ferry from the Ferry Inn in Salcombe.  From the East Portlemouth Ferry station, walk along the beach (or road if the tide is in) towards the open sea.  At Mill Bay you can join the South West Coastal Path and walk to the old coastguard station at Gara Rock.  Just past here is a footpath looping back across fields to Mill Bay and (via the East Portlemouth Ferry) Salcombe.  The loop from and to the Ferry is about 4 miles.

To South Pool.  Take the East Portlemouth Ferry from the Ferry Inn in Salcombe.  From the East Portlemouth Ferry station, walk up to the road and turn left.  Continue on this road (which becomes a footpath in places, crossing various creeks) until you reach South Pool.  Lunch at the Mill Brook before returning home via the same route.  The journey from and to the Ferry is about 5 miles.  The Mill Brook is also accessible by boat, about 2 hours either side of high tide (depending on the tide).
